I am an east coaster currently out west and damn if i’m not therapissed to be missing this event!  as a psych major and a madasfuck grrrl i have been anxiously waiting for this round of APA decisions for a long time. 

I will make a concerted effort to post about the upcoming DSM 5 over the next couple days.

This is so important. 

we like to say that homosexuality was taken out of the DSM in 1973 and tho that is technically true, it’s also not true, and we should not consider it an ultimate victory.  this is so important: remember, nothing ever is really removed from the DSM, rather the pathology is just stretched and permeated into other parts of the book, other diagnoses. It’s very neoliberal.  Remember this!! If things were being removed, the book would be getting smaller.

it’s very important that we discuss the implications of groups pushing for racism to be in the DSM, for example. [are you a racist? talk to your doctor about neolibera.  Neolibra, the color blind pill.] to discuss GAD potentially splintering into like 12 other diagnoses (engaging with rights-and-demands political strategies).  or carol queen proposing that “absexuality” be added to the manual (gotta love when “cool” “radical” feminists pathologize all who oppose them…).  ETC.

so seriously, this is historic.  there are similar events in Toronto and Boston, get out there!!!
